...Or good bye cheap motel hallway! This transformation was a long time coming, but I am very pleased with it. This hallway is the small space in the upstairs of our townhouse. Straight ahead is our bedroom, to the left is the guest room, on the right is the bath and behind the bi-fold door is the stacked washer/dryer. This little space represents so much of what I am trying to achieve here in our little home--light and spare with a farmhouse/cottage feel.
Here's a better angle of the bi-fold door.
I was so scrunched when I was taking these photos that I simply could not get the light in, but here it is. In fact, there are two of these in this hallway. They are from Lowes and cost $48 each.
And here is the before again. I painted the original 80's oak woodwork (here in the primer stage), but I soon realized it was still ugly and must come out.
We tore out the hollow core doors and replaced them with solid pine doors that I painted in Benjamin Moore's Simply White. The doors were on sale and cost $69 each. The bi-fold door was $100. The door knob sets were $14 a pop. The baseboards are 4 1/2 inches wide, although you cannot see that very well in the photos. The baseboards are actually pre-primed (in white) MDF and cost $10 for eight feet. Once installed, you cannot even tell it is MDF. The door trim is solid pine at $1.14/linear foot, wider and with a much prettier profile than the old oak. The walls are painted in Behr's Ultra White, as are all the walls in the townhouse. The rug is Dash and Albert. I love the splash of red.
In Phase II, we will be planking the ceiling with tongue and groove boards and laying a pretty, flat-weave carpet. This carpet is still in good shape, although not high quality. We will stick with carpet upstairs for quiet and warmth and do a solid surface downstairs.
And finally, hugs and kisses to my dear hubby who listens to and implements all my crazy schemes and ideas. Thanks, Sweetheart! xxoo

Great renovation!!
Love it! I dream of replacing all 6 of the ugly hollow core doors in my bungalow. My hall is so similar to yours, and now I can clearly imagine what it will look like. I'm gonna do it! Thanks!

Love the white it looks great! Visiting from Met Monday!
I LOVE this! I like that you used the same paint on the trim as well as the doors. Contrasting colors make it feel choppy. This turned out beautiful!
Thanks very much to all for your kind words!
